This title-decider between Liverpool and Arsenal is one of the most iconic games in the history of English football.
The two teams were neck and neck in the league table before the game. Liverpool needed only a draw to clinch the title. The Gunners, on the other hand, needed to win by at least two goals to beat the Merseysiders to the title.

After 90 minutes Arsenal was up 1-0, which meant Liverpool were about to be crowned champions.
But The Gunners launched one final attack.
A long pass found Arsenal’s Michael Thomas charging through the midfield. Thomas evaded a challenge by Nicol and raced into the penalty area. He slipped the ball past the advancing Grobbelaar and clinched the title for the Londoners on goal difference.

Thomas’ late winner was further immortalised by Brian Moores iconic commentary:
“It’s up for grabs now! THOMAS! Right at the end!”
