The Turkish National Football team truly made the country proud in 2002. Not only had they qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1954. They also made an absolutely incredible run in the tournament in South Korea/Japan.

After advancing from the group stage, Turkey beat Japan 1-0 in the round-of-16.
Next up was a quarterfinal clash with Senegal. This turned out to be quite an exciting game for the Turks. After a goalless 90 minutes, the game went into extra time. Here İlhan Mansız scored the golden goal winner for Turkey in the 94th minute.

Turkey’s amazing World Cup campaign ended with them winning bronze medals against South Korea.
