They had the inventor of the “Total Football” style and legendary manager, Rinus Michels on the sideline. On the pitch, they were led by legendary players like Ronald Koeman and “The Three Tulips” – Rijkaard, Van Basten and Gullit.
This iconic Dutch side went to the Euros that year bound for glory.
They made their way to the final where they faced the Soviet Union.
Thanks to goals from Van Basten and Gullit the Netherlands won their first major international trophy.
